Share Your Soul

Rachel Carrington

Synopsis from Amazon:
On the fifth anniversary of my murder, I took action against inaction. I set out to find what I wanted the most—revenge. Others warned me that the whole project could be risky, but getting even with my killer husband seemed worth the danger. Turned out, I made an appointment with the Angel of Death. Perfect.

I've always had a weak spot for bad-boy, rocker types but Gabriel the bad-boy angel surpassed my fantasies. He looked like Bon Jovi in his long hair days, which destroyed my ability to concentrate. Plus, he claimed he could help me only if I trusted him. The last man I put my faith in shot a bullet through my heart. How the heck could I trust the Angel of Death?

So anyway, I told Gabriel that I needed retribution before I could move on. He granted me three days in a mortal body to gain closure. Great offer except for one thing—my dear husband had already been found not guilty so he couldn't be tried again. No hope of ever putting him behind bars…at least not for shooting me. I also had no idea where the loser had dumped my body. How was I supposed to get vengeance?

After that, things got really complicated. I had to find dirt on my jerk of a husband while placing my faith in the Angel of Death and ignoring the forbidden things he did to my phantom heart and loaner body. Yeah, the whole situation sounded weird to me, too, but what was a misplaced spirit to do except roll with it?

My Review:
While I feel that the feelings between Gabriel and Olivia grew extremely fast, I enjoyed the story that Rachel Carrington creates for her readers. From the beginning, I had hoped for the outcome of the end and was glad that I was close to what really happened. The plot of the story is not overused like vampires falling in love with humans have been lately, and was interested through the whole story. I also read this novella within two sittings, before and after work never really wanting to stop. The only downfall for this story is that it is only a novella, and I hope that Rachel Carrington will one day go into their future. I am not sure what the other novellas in the series are about, but I am hoping Olivia and Gabriel will at least be mentioned within the next story. Share Your Soul was an easy read, and I would recommend to others. My rating for this book is 4 stars.

Join them on a journey of self-discovery that becomes a desperate fight for survival against enemies determined to conceal the truth … and find out what happens when that fight becomes personal.

My Review

This book took me for a lot of twist and turns I think because you never knew what to expect. There was very much thought on this plot and the characters, I never read anything from this author before and I loved I mean loved how he writes! Each character had a mean and a purpose and the plot followed into the characters. Jason was I guess you could say the perfect kid, had a great life was the star person in high school he just had one problem he couldn't remember where he came from. With Jason there is also Elyse they make the perfect team. They travel through this journey together trying to figure out where they came from. If you love a good mystery and two people trying to find themselves then this is the book for you. Travel into Jason's and Elyse's world.

New Blood: Vampire in the City

New Blood: Vampire in the City (Book One)

Synopsis of book from amazon.com:

Emma Hammond is a normal young woman living in New York City whose life changes forever when one misstep brings her very close to death. Luckily, Alex Thompson, a handsome stranger (who also happens to be a vampire), jumps in to save her, turning Emma into a vampire. She quickly discovers the numerous advantages (no more allergies, glasses, or acne) and slight drawbacks (wanting to eat her boyfriend) of joining the ranks of the creatures of the night. But Emma soon finds out her new undead life isn't all it's cracked up to be when she gets pulled in to an age-old dispute between two feuding vampire clans.

My Review

Right away I was hooked to this book, even though it is simply written and contains a plot that has been used by other authors in the past. Within my first sitting, I read the first nine chapters and really wished to continue, but my class schedule would not let me. Once returning home from classes, I was able to finish the book within two sittings. This two hundred page book will be a fast read for readers who enjoy vampire stories, and if you enjoyed New Blood you would be pleased to find out there is a second book to Emma’s story called Wild Blood. While the plot of the story is not unique, the characters within this book are very likable  At the end of New Blood you’ll want to read more just to know what will happen with Emma’s love life.  All in all, this book is a fantastic read for those who have a passion of books involving vampires. I would gladly suggest this author’s work to any of my fellow readers, as I look forward to reading book two.

My Review

Right at the beginning of this book caught my attention.  I at first read the very beginning of this book really fast because I was so anxious at what was going to happened. Jesca has a lot going on, shes coming into new abilities and trying to find her self in a new city and as her job as a guardian. In some ways she has a normal life she had a job had a family then one thing happens and it turns upside down. You have to pay very close attention to this book or you will get lost, sometimes it was had to follow but saying that I really loved this book and can't not wait for the second one. There is also somewhat of a love plot in this book towards the end I can't wait to see if the author explores that.

Sliding Beneath the Surface Blog Tour / Chapter & Review

Sliding Beneath The Surface
The St. Augustine Trilogy
Book 1

Fog

I shut Lobo’s door behind me without putting on my jacket and took a big breath of cold air. Standing there for a second, I felt like I had been running hard. God, my heart pounded so hard I thought it might split wide open, and that stupid headache throbbed even more. I hated leaving Carla like I did, but the time to get out of there had come.

Being away from Lobo was such a relief. With my eyes closed, I took another deep breath and let it out slowly. All that had gone on that afternoon rushed through my mind like a flooding river. Instantly, those panicky urges to turn around and run away while walking towards Lobo’s place with Carla popped up in my head. I opened my eyes again only to see that everything had gotten a lot darker than it was seconds before. A massive fog bank had somehow moved in over Matanzas Bay and already covered most of Lobo’s dock. As I watched, the rest of the dock disappeared into all that gray stuff as if it had never been there. Rapidly, a smaller wave of fog rolled over the tip of the peninsula and headed right for me at a speed fog should never move. It all happened so fast, I had no time to think or act. Long fingers of mist reached for the porch, and before I knew it, a cold wetness surrounded me.

“What the hell?” I whispered to myself. Talk about freaky. Yeah, it scared me—so much that I even turned around to go back into the house. Believe it or not, right then, facing old Lobo seemed better than dealing with that awful, weird fog. When I turned around though, I couldn’t find the house. All I could see was fog in every direction. Even so, I knew the front door had to be there directly in front of me, right? I mean I hadn’t moved more than a couple of feet away from it, so I stretched my arms out and slowly stepped forward.
After walking maybe five or six steps, I still hadn’t found the door or any part of the house. I know what you’re thinking. You’re sure I must have been hallucinating all of that or something. I don’t blame you. To be perfectly honest, I thought the same thing at first, but that cold, wet fog was very, very real.

“Carla!” I shouted, but my voice sounded muffled. “Lobo?” I yelled. At any second, I expected one of them to open the door and answer me. No such luck. I kept shouting anyway.

When I finally gave up yelling my lungs out, the absolute silence startled me. Like a thick blanket of insulation, the fog no longer allowed any sound in from the outside world—no birds chirping, no noises from boats out on the bay or traffic in the neighborhood. Nothing but total silence. I swear, it was so quiet I actually heard my heart beating. As I listened though, I noticed a darkness creeping into the fog. I’m telling you, it just got darker and darker as I stood there frozen in fear, with my head still aching. In less than a minute, I was in total blackness with only the feel of cold, wet fog all over me. Strangely enough, I also smelled something like pine needles. Pine trees. Pine needles. Something like that.

I didn’t know what to do. Lobo’s words about spirits and danger still swirled through my weary brain, reviving the memory of that deep blackness I had seen at the bottom of his carved ivory ball. For a moment, I wondered if I was dreaming somehow, but the feel of that cold fog all over my body told a different story. I turned around several times, hoping to see or hear something, anything. When that got me nowhere, the panic really started to build. Even in the cold, I could feel sweat trickling down my back and under my arms. I had never felt so alone.

“Wait. Wait a minute,” I said out loud, closing my eyes even though there was nothing to see. “Take it easy and think.” After sucking in a couple of deep breaths of cold air, I put on my jacket. Funny how that helped. Doing that one little thing for myself also calmed me down a little. Even my headache eased up a bit.

No matter what, I said to myself, you still have to be on Lobo’s porch. All you have to do is get down on your hands and knees and feel your way across the wood floor until you find the door. Why didn’t you think of that before, idiot?

To be Continued...

My Review

Sliding Beneath the Surface was amazing! It actually incorporated history into a great plot and made you want to learn more about what happened at St. Augustine’s. He makes a 15 year old boy, Jeff, goes through more then any other boy should. But luckily for Jeff he has a great friend Carla them together makes a pair for this paranormal ride that they each go on. I found myself laughing at so many parts at this book. Carla is also Jeff’s crush so it only makes this book more interesting!

With this being this author’s debut book I am amazed that he did so well! I will be reading more of this author’s work. I will be anxiously awaiting the next book in this series. And I will be buying more of this author’s books.
